The images here lend to the weary, ever-busied eye a rest; a stop at a quiet bench where the elements join--water meets earth, and leaves and grass are chimes for the wind. I hear, smell, and feel these places as much as I see them. That, I think, says much for the artist who shares them.

HI!
IT WAS SO NICE CHATTING WITH YOUR FAMILY AND EXCHANGE STUDENT TODAY AT THE GUTHRIE. NICE WEB SITE! AS AN OLD AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER I LAMENT THE PASSING OF KODACHROME. I TOO LOVE LAKE SUPERIOR AND HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF MY DAYS IN DULUTH. I DO GET TO VISIT A FRIEND WHO LIVES A FEW FEET FROM THE LAPPING WAVES ABOUT SIX MILES UP THE SHORE ON OLD 61. I ALWAYS BRING MY CAMERA!

Have made our home near Lake Superior since the early 70’s. The Great Lakes’ grandeur, ever changing attraction and appeal has kept us close. My interest and appreciation in “the Fresh Coast Project” rests in it’s initiator; Photographer Ed Wargin, his passion and apparent limitless abilities to capture the wonderment of the lakes. Congratulations and good luck in pursuit of this endeavor. Without question, this will result in an amazing product for the ages.
I look forward to following your progress. Proud of you! -- RB

I was born in the Upper Peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Superior. Since I was able to go the distance on foot with my dad, I roamed, fished, swam, and boated her beautiful shores through the seasons. Even in my travels throughout the United States and Canada, I have never found anything to compare to her. She's an unforgettable lake, moody and wild, calm and pristine, boasting breathtaking panorama that awaits the traveler who comes to her Pictured shores.
Her history holds tales of horrific shipwrecks, including the Edmund Fitzgerald, to stories of soldiers who spent many a cold winter night guarding the locks of Sault Ste. Marie during World War II...my dad being one of them for a time.
I was working at the local paper mill the night the Edmund Fitzgerald went down. Ships had pulled in to our natural harbor and even they couldn't hold anchor. The lake that night was terrible to look at and awesome in all its fury...mighty as any ocean...it could have been called "the perfect storm".
All the oldtimers will tell you she's unpredictable and one you never want to treat lightly.
So we show her the respect due her and appreciate what she continually reworks for us.
She's a marvel at sculpting the sandstone cliffs into works of art. From Miners Castle to Grand Portal, the towering cliffs are reminders of her mighty handiwork.
Good luck with this project. I look forward to seeing it when completed.
